You can avoid the sequence of risk in retirement

Aging can cause challenges financially when health issues arise. This can lead to extra stress on you and family members.

As we work with our clients, we see the types of stress that Long Term Care expenses can cause. It not only affects the person that requires care but also their family and friends who support and care for them. When a person needs long-term care due to an illness, it may burden their children, spouse and siblings and cause stress. The first of these is financial by putting a strain on income and depleted savings due to the need to help pay for the health provider costs. The second is a detrimental effect on the mental and emotional wellbeing of the family. Caregivers miss out on time with their own families. Also, if financial support or physical care is not spread out evenly it can cause resentment amongst family members.

Even before the Long Term Care expenses start to hit another stress that one may be thinking is – Am I going to run out of money?! Since Pension plans do not exist for many people – there are only a few options for guaranteed income. Most people do not realize they cannot live a stress-free retirement by living on the average rates of returns from their investments. There is a term that most are not aware of which is called the sequence risk of return.

If you are not aware of how the sequence risk of return can cause problems for your own retirement income – I would be happy to show you how it works.

What provides most people a sense of security is clarity in retirement. That just means having a good handle on projected fixed expenses and the income that is reliably consistent.

The two areas that take stress out of retirement are:

1. A plan for how to handle potential Long Term Care type expenses.

- Having one can allow you to use your other money much differently.

2. Guaranteed income for both spouses life.

- The fear of running out of money causes stress and more health problems.

- There are only a few ways to produce streams of guaranteed income. We explore all of them to help clients truly enjoy their retirement.

You are never too young to start planning to make sure your retirement days will be as stress free as possible.
